23rd Book Festival in Carhaix (Central Brittany) this week-end
The "Festival of the Book in Brittany - Gouel al levrioù e Breizh" will take place, as every year in Carhaix, 27 & 28 October.
Showcase for the Breton edition, the festival expects this year a hundred publishers nearly 300 authors and tens of thousands of visitors.
This 23th edition will be chaired by journalist and writer Jean BOTHOREL and the thematic of the festival will be : Cartoon and political books.

The "Festival des Filets Bleus" this week at CONCARNEAU ...
Oldest traditional festival of Brittany (107 years!), The "Festival des Filets Bleus" will be as every year in CONARNEAU from Wednesday 15 to Sunday 19 August.
The program for this new edition : concerts with Alan STIVELL, Mairtin O'CONNOR Band, The Goristes, Trio EDF, Tayfa... and also on the Sunday with forty traditional bands of music and dances.

The Breton Bagad Champions (grade 1) play on McCALLUM !
The final of the Bagad National Championship (grade 1) was held as every year at the Festival Interceltic of LORIENT on last Saturday. After this final, Bagad Kemper was crowned Champion of Brittany for the 20th time.
Also note, that in this competition, the three pipes' corps highest ranked, played with McCALLUM pipe chanters.

Results of McCALLUM & TI AR SONERIEN's contests
The Trophy McCALLUM & TI AR SONERIEN (solo piping competitions) took place as every year in the Festival of Cornouaille (Quimper, Brittany), the Thursday 26th of July.
This year, the contests was helding in the old theatre of the city where some famous Pipers as Fred MORRISON, Gordon DUCAN, Kenny MacLEOD... used to play for concerts in the 80's and 90's.
No fewer than eight competitors competed themselves in the category - 20 years and 8 in the Open category. Each competitor required to appear in three separate events (Breton, Scottish and Irish) to win the trophy.
As a reminder, McCALLUM Bagpipes offers the winner in the category - 20 years, an AB4 Deluxe bagpipe.

Manufactured in Scotland by McCALLUM Bagpipes, these instruments were designed and developed by Hervé LE FLOC'H and Sylvain HAMON (from Bagad CAP CAVAL) on behalf of TI AR SONERIEN.
Already adopted by several Bagads in Brittany, these instruments are very popular for their sound and exceptional accuracy.

Some exciting news about McCallum pipe chanters.
In a Piper and Drummer survey and article on their web site entitled What the world's top pipe band pipe-sections are playing it was discovered that 50% of the grade one bands were playingMcCallum Pipe Chanters in the 2011 season.
Here's what they said :
"Only 20 years ago the types of chanters being played at the Grade 1 level numbered maybe four. Forty years ago that number was probably fewer. In 2011, though, a total of nine varieties were counted, with McCallum plastic chanters most popular with more than 34% of bands competing with them. Interestingly, 19% of bands went out with blackwood Sinclair chanters – famously expensive instruments that are generally accepted to require very adept players to handle their tuning requirements. McCallum blackwood chanters make strong headway in third spot, with nearly 16% of respondents playing them, meaning that McCallum owns more than 50% of the market surveyed when the small percentage of bands playing McCallum MC2 chanters is factored.
McCallum is the runaway leader in terms of manufacturers."

McCallum Bagpipes news
This year has been another successful year for pipers and pipe bands playing McCallum products.
One young man who has been doing really well in recent years is Calum Beaumont.
At this years Argyllshire Gathering in Oban, Calum Beaumont won his first gold medal playing a full silver set of McCallum Bagpipes with an McC2 pipe chanter.
He also won the silver medal in 2006 with this set. He has been playing a different set in the Inverary Pipe Band for a couple of years as well.

Pibroc'h en bord de mer - CANCALE (35) - 18th September 2011
For the seventh consecutive year, the Breton association "Musique de Pibroc'h - Music of Piobaireachd" holds in CANCALE (Brittany - France) the event "Pibroc'h en bord de mer - Piobaireachd on the seafront" next Sunday the 18th of September.
The public is guest to discover and stroll by listening the best pipers (about twenty from Brittany and abroad), whom will play a piece of "classical music" from the Celtic repertoire. These pieces are suitable to dream and the auditor may run his eye on the most beautiful site of CANCALE, in the crook of the bay of Mont St Michel.
Hear this majestic music is like extending the time for an infinity of sensations and to provide to CANCALE a specific event musical and poetic, unique, by the masters of this art : Hervé LE FLOC'H (Bagad Cap Caval) Patrick MOLARD (from SAINT-MALO, well known), Anne LORE (from ORLEANS)... and some promising young talents. We will again this year invited two Irish medalists : Alisdair DUNN and Robert WATT.

GPS Brittany Pipe Band
A new Pipe Band is born in Brittany the : the Gradlon Piping Society Brittany Pipe Band.
Already composed of thirty musicians, this new Pipe Band is led by Pipe Major Michel DROUAL and chaired by Hervé JAOUEN.
The Pipe Band has decided to equip themselves with pipe chanters McCALLUM and ANDANTE drums sold by TI AR SONERIEN.

TI AR SONERIEN and McCALLUM Bagpipes are partners of the Solo piping competitions during the "Cornouaille Festival" at Quimper (Brittany).
The competition will take place at Ti ar Vro (Quimper) the 22th of July 2010.
